Calamba Water District Denies Connection of Water Source To Creek w/ Poliovirus

CALAMBA WATER DISTRICT – The water distributor made a clarification following one of the creeks in Calamba, Laguna going positive for poliovirus.

Amid the COVID-19 crisis in the Philippines now, the people of Calamba, Laguna were recently alarmed with another health threat. It is the poliovirus.

Poliovirus is known as an incurable health condition that is characterized by fever, stiffness of the body, sore throat, and headache among others. These are the signs before the condition gets worst. It is fatal and contagious.

The said health condition can be prevented through a vaccine. That is why parents are really advised to have their children vaccinated against this virus.

Recently, a water creek in Calamba, Laguna were tested by the Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO). The water between Barangay Bucal and Barangay Halang tested positive for poliovirus.

Following the result of the water testing, the authorities warned the people not to submerge into the water or avoid visiting the area now. The said water travels from Panama Homes to Laguna de Bay.

The authorities also warned the people not to drink NAWASA water that has not been heat. Recently, an update about the issue crossed the surface.

Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the Calamba Water District clarified that the line of their water source is not connected with the creek that is positive for poliovirus, the Ligasong Creek.

According to Calamba Water District General Manager Exequiel Aguilar Jr., their water source is Bucal Spring. Based on the report, he assured that their water supply is not contaminated with poliovirus.

“Nothing to worry po at kami po naman ay ginagawa po namin lahat para po mapanatili yung kredebilidad ng malinis na tubig dito po sa siyudad ng Calamba,” he said.
