Barangay chairman shot dead in Dumaguete
A Barangay chairman in Dumaguete City was shot dead by unidentified gunmen on Tuesday night, June 16, 2020.
The victim identified as Captain Harrison Gonzales was sitting in front of a Tanod outpost along with his Kagawads in Barangay Tinago when unidentified riding in tandem fired shots at them.
According to the authorities, the shooting incident took place at around 9:30 p.m.
Based on the investigation conducted by the local police, four (4) suspects launched the attack and they are wearing a facemask, onboard a motorcycle.
The barangay chairman accumulated gunshot wounds in various parts of his body.
The 52-year-old victim was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital but he was declared dead on arrival.
Based on the report of ABS-CBN News, authorities were able to retrieve 8 empty cartridge and 2 slugs of a pistol from the crime scene.
The police are still trying to figure out the motive behind the killing of the Barangay chairman.
This is not the first time that a local public official was shot dead in this pressing year.
Last March, Alfredo Facundo, chairman of Barangay Lucong in Mabitac, Laguna was killed by unknown gunmen inside his house.
