The Philippines already experiencing a second wave of coronavirus disease 2019 or COVID-19 outbreak, according to DOH Secretary Francisco Duque III
Francisco Duque III, the Secretary of the Department of Health, on Wednesday said that the Philippines already experiencing a second wave of coronavirus disease 2019 or COVID-19.
This, as Health Secretary Francisco Duque told the Senate during the Senate Committee of the Whole Hearing that the first wave of the COVID-19 outbreak happened in the earlier part of the year 2020 — which was last January 2020 — when imported cases of coronavirus disease were detected in the country.
Duque also said that the first wave was known as “a small wave”, adding that the second wave was currently happening in the country. Also, the Health Secretary assured the Senate that the Department of Health was doing its best in order to flatten the epidemic curve in the Philippines.
As of 4:00 p.m. of May 19, the Philippines had reported a total of 12,942 confirmed cases of coronavirus disease 2019 or COVID-19 wherein a total of 2,843 patients were already recovered and 837 patients, unfortunately, died due to the said disease.
According to a report from GMA News Online, Duque previously mentioned that a third wave of coronavirus disease 2019 or COVID-19 transmission might be the “worst case scenario” for the National Capital Region (NCR) once the region will be placed under general community quarantine (GCQ) without enough testing.
