Pangilinan Appreciates Duterte’s Remark Following Apology

Maynilad Chairman Manuel Pangilinan Thanked President Duterte For His “Sincerity And Kindness” After Hearing The President’s Remark.

Manuel Pangilinan, a business tycoon, thanked President Rodrigo Duterte for his “sincerity and kindness” after hearing the President’s remark.

This, as Manuel Pangilinan — the chairman of Metro Pacific Investments Corp (a group of companies which was composed of PLDT, Maynilad, Meralco and Metro Pacific Tollways) — spoke on Twitter on Tuesday, saying that he was “fully committed to being a partner” of the Philippine government in addressing the pandemic in the country. In his tweet, Pangilinan appreciated Duterte’s “sincerity and kindness” as he thanked him for his remark on Monday evening.

The public apology from the President came after accusing Manila Water and Maynilad of allegedly taking advantage of their agreement with the Philippine government.

As he addressed the nation on Monday evening, President Duterte thanked businessmen, including Pangilinan, for contributing to the response, adding that he apologized to the Ayalas of Manila Water and to Pangilinan of Maynilad for his “hurting words” against water concessionaires. President Duterte also said that he will “undercut” them and “will go direct to God” if they didn’t accept the public apology from him.

“The COVID humbled me,” the President said.

President Duterte also said that there would be “a lot of legal issues” to address, but he was ready to talk.

Previously, the Ayala group said that the company will release a P2.4-billion relief package for its employees and partners who were affected by the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) implemented over Metro Manila and other high-risk areas due to outbreak.

Pangilinan’s PLDT, on the other hand, donated 30 service vehicles to the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) for use.
