Facebook’s Messenger Rooms Now Available Globally
Facebook globally released Messenger Rooms in both smartphones (Android and iOS) and desktops (Windows or Mac) through the Messenger app.
This, after Facebook previously launched its Messenger Rooms as one of the company’s updates in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Messenger Rooms was an alternative to Zoom and Group FaceTime.
Messenger Rooms, according to Facebook, would let users create their room to initiate joinable free video calls with up to 50 people and without a time limit, as such, this would make them easy to spend their quality time with their families, friends, or even loved ones.
Facebook, in its blog post, said that users can start and share their rooms on Facebook through their News Feed, Groups, and Events. Also, users may be able to choose who can join and see their room or even remove someone from their room and lock their room if they don’t want any person to join.
In order to activate this feature, mobile users must update their Facebook and Messenger apps from Google Play Store or Apple App Store. For desktop users, they must download the latest version of Messenger Desktop via Microsoft Store or Mac App Store.
The global release of Messenger Rooms came as Facebook wanted to compete with Zoom in terms of video conferencing app. Yet Facebook said that users globally, including the Philippines, can only create a room from Messenger, adding that users in North America can only create a room from Facebook.
