The enforcement of PNP on the first day of GCQ in some parts of the Philippines was “generally smooth”, according to the Deputy Chief for Operations of the Philippine National Police.
Police Lieutenant General Guillermo Eleazar on Saturday said that the enforcement of the Philippine National Police (PNP) on the first day of the general community quarantine (GCQ) in some parts of the Philippines was “generally smooth”.
This, after President Rodrigo Duterte issued Executive Order No. 112 dated May 1, 2020, which approved the implementation of the general community quarantine (GCQ) in some parts of the Philippines.
Police Lieutenant General Guillermo Eleazar, the Deputy Chief for Operations of the Philippine National Police, said that the enforcement of GCQ last May 1 went well, adding that this would give an opportunity for the law enforcement agencies to prepare for it.
Eleazar also reported that the crime rates continued to decrease following the implementation of the enhanced community quarantine in the Philippines since March 17, as the crime rates decreased to 67% in Luzon, 58% in the Visayas, and 51% in Mindanao.
Violators were also decreased in the last eight days after imposing an order for stricter enforcement of ECQ or enhanced community quarantine.
As per the report, quarantine violators reached 156,000, yet 26% of these violators were arrested and 67% were given warnings. Eleazar also reported that only 1,900 violators were arrested on May 1.
As of 4:00 p.m. of May 1, the Department of Health reported 284 new cases of COVID-19, with 41 new recoveries and 11 new coronavirus deaths. This brought the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases to 8,772, with 1,084 total recoveries and 579 total fatalities.
