Disney Reopened Shanghai Disneyland After A Three-Month Closure Due To COVID-19 Pandemic
Disney on Monday reopened Shanghai Disneyland after a three-month closure due to coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.
This, as Walt Disney Co. said that there will be an increased frequency of sanitation and disinfection, adding that the Shanghai Disneyland would limit or suspend performances that include interactions between Disney characters and park’s visitors.
Disneyland in Shanghai was the first of the six main Disney resorts to reopen around the world. As part of China’s strict measures, visitors had to check their temperatures upon arrival as well as present their government QR code in order to determine if they’re not a health risk.
As visitors arrived at the park, they would hear recorded audio on speakers, asking the public to obey social distancing and wear their masks. Signs, yellow lines, and posters were also present in the park as part of social distancing measures.
As per the Chinese state media, the tickets for the first day of reopening were sold out within minutes.
Shanghai Disneyland Senior Vice President of Operations Andrew Bolstein said that the park’s attractions and facilities were opened, adding that the park will be “adding more and more as time goes on”.
Previously, Walt Disney Co. reported that the company’s profit fell 91% to USD 475 million in the first quarter of 2020, adding that the company would suffer a USD 1.4-billion hit from COVID-19 in the current quarter of the year.
Bob Chapek, the chief executive of Disney, previously said that the company was “seeing encouraging signs of a gradual return to some semblance of normalcy in China”.
