Apple will host its first-ever virtual WWDC 2020 on June 22
Apple officially announced that it will host its first-ever virtual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) which will start on June 22, 2020.
Although Apple wanted to host an in-person event, the company’s original plan was shifted into an online event due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Developers can have free access to watch the virtual event via Apple’s Developer app and Developer website.
According to Apple’s Senior Vice President of Worldwide Marketing Phil Schiller, this event would be the company’s “biggest” event as this would bring their global developer community together “in an unprecedented way” to learn more about the future of its platforms, adding that Apple was looking forward to sharing more information about its event.
Swift Student Challenge
Apple already started its first Swift Student Challenge for young developers worldwide. Interested participants — at least 13 years of age — must visit this site for full mechanics.
Winners will be receiving an exclusive WWDC20 jacket and a pin set.
According to Apple’s Senior Vice President of Software Engineering Craig Federighi, the company wanted to recognize students and young developers for their creative contributions across the globe, adding that Apple was excited to see the “next generation of innovative thinkers” that would turn their ideas into a reality through Apple’s challenge.
