Baby Boy in Davao City Died of COVID-19 Two (2) Days Since Hospital Admission
BABY BOY – A 25-day old male baby in Davao City died of coronavirus or COVID-19 disease.
Coronavirus or COVID-19 has affected over 200 countries across the globe. Philippines is one of those with confirmed cases of the said disease that is now a pandemic.
The World Health Organization (WHO) said that COVID-19 fight is a long-term battle. Countries must not be complacent after the 1st wave as it may happen again.
The COVID-19 does not exempt anyone although the senior citizens are more prone to contracting the infection. It can infect even the young ones with no existing medical conditions.
Unfortunately, in the Philippines, several members of the healthcare industry died of the said disease. At least twelve (12) doctors lost their lives because of this pandemic.
Recently, in Davao City, a baby boy died because of COVID-19. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the baby is a 25-day-old residing in Barangay 23-C, a densely-populated area.
The said baby was admitted to Southern Philippines Medical Center last May 7. According to SPMC Chief Dr. Leopoldo Vega, the baby was experiencing LBM and fever.
Department of Health (DOH) in Davao Region stated that the baby boy died of COVID-19 last May 9. Based on the report, the final diagnosis of his death is “septic shock secondary to neonatal sepsis, neonatal pneumonia, acute gastroenteritis with severe dehydration, multiple electrolyte imbalance and COVID-19”.
Reportedly, some areas in the barangay where the baby and his family reside were among those that were locked-down when a COVID-19 case was confirmed there. Currently, the authorities is still investigating on how the infant contracted the disease.
