YouTube was about to launch “Shorts” in order to compete with TikTok, according to reports.
Reports revealed that Google’s YouTube app will launch its “Shorts” format in order to compete with ByteDance’s TikTok app.
This, as The Information reported that YouTube was about to release Shorts by the end of 2020, adding that this would be one of the upcoming new features. The Information also reported that this was Google’s “most serious” move to compete with TikTok.
In a report from 9to5Google, Shorts will allow users to use its licensed music as a background track.
It wasn’t the first time that YouTube has to compete with other apps. Previously, YouTube launched its Stories format on its app in order to compete with Facebook’s Instagram app and Snap Inc’s Snapchat app.
