Show Cause Orders Issued Against 100 Brgy. Captains, Says DILG Sec

Show cause orders have been issued to about 100 barangay captains, according to DILG Secretary Eduardo Año.

DILG Secretary Eduardo Año on Thursday said that show cause orders have been issued to about 100 barangay captains due to alleged failure to implement the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ).

This, as Eduardo Año, the Secretary of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), said in an interview that the majority of the barangay captains who failed to implement the enhanced community quarantine were from Metro Manila.

Año also said that the show cause orders were also issued to three governors — who already explained and adjusted their Executive Orders (EOs) — and five mayors.

Previously, the Department of the Interior and Local Government stated that the local executives were responsible in properly implementing the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) as mandated by the Bayanihan to Heal as One Act or Republic Act No. 11469, which stated that local officials will “fully cooperate in the cohesive implementation of the national policy to address the pandemic.“

Año warned that the government might file an administrative or criminal case to local executives if they failed to properly impose the enhanced community quarantine in their respective territories, as such, President Rodrigo Duterte, according to Año, has the power to suspend or dismiss any local executives who violated the Bayanihan to Heal as One Act or Republic Act No. 11469.

As per the report, DILG Secretary Eduardo Año also said that Martin Diño, the Undersecretary for Barangay Affairs of the Department of Interior and Local Government, will continue to evaluate if other local executives will also be issued with show cause orders.
