This, as city authorities on Sunday said that the shortage of coffins would forced locals to use cardboard boxes as an alternative, adding that they already received 1,000 cardboard coffins from local producers who donated to the city. These cardboard coffins were then delivered in two local cemeteries in Ecuador.

According to the office of the city mayor in Guayaquil, the cardboard caskets would be a great help for the city in providing a formal burial for those who died during the health emergency.

As reported by AFP News, Ecuador had reported 3,646 confirmed COVID-19 cases, with 180 fatalities and 100 recoveries as of this writing.
