When will the biggest and brightest supermoon appear this year?
The biggest and the brightest supermoon of 2020 is expected to be seen on this date, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) stated.
One of the most wonderful natural scenery that people around the globe can witness is the beauty of heavenly bodies. Last year, most parts of the world witnessed the supermoon on September 28.
Netizens have shared various amazing photos with the said huge ball of light in the sky. This year, beautiful photos are set to flood on social media with the biggest and brightest supermoon that will be seen on April 8.
The heavenly body is most visible when it will be in its perigee or the point in the moon’s orbit nearest the Earth on Wednesday at 2:09 a.m, based on the report from Manila Bulletin.
This 2020, the closest full moon to Earth is at 357,016.803 kilometers. The term supermoon is coined because the natural satellite of the Earth will appear 14 percent bigger and 30 percent brighter than it is usually seen.
PAGASA stated that “supermoon” is a modern term in astrology coined by Richard Nolle. The said astrological term has this definition: “A new or full moon that occurs when the moon is within 90 percent of its closest approach to Earth in a given orbit.”
This phenomenon is also known as “perigee full moon,” or a full moon that is closer to Earth than the usual. Based on PAGASA’s statement, there is a possibility that the supermoon could trigger just a slightly higher-than-usual tide. However, this situation is minimal and may not cause flooding.
Since the moon is nearer to Earth, it will have more gravitational pull. That is why the high tides and low tides will be affected. Filipinos can witness the biggest and brightest supermoon this year at the comfort of their homes, especially when the skies are clear.
Based on the report, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration stated that a 30 percent difference in brightness can easily be masked by clouds or it will be overpowered by the glare of urban lights.
