Paul initially reasoned that he went for a test due to his extensive trips. Based on a report on CNN, the move of the Senator to not go on self-quarantine while waiting for the test result gained criticisms from his fellow lawmakers and the aides.

For his part, US Sen. Rand Paul justified his decision to not go on self-quarantine while waiting for the results of his test for COVID-19. He stressed the testing rules.

“For those who want to criticize me for lack of quarantine, realize that if the rules on testing had been followed to a tee, I would never have been tested and would still be walking around the halls of the Capitol,” the Kentucky Senator said on a statement based on the report.

Also, Paul added that the guidelines would not call him to be quarantined or tested. He stressed that he was “feeling fine” and the decision to get tested was out of his concern for his “damaged lung”.

While some criticized Paul, others also defended that it is not the best time for it. A South Carolina senator stressed that it should serve as a lesson.
