An Indian state health minister announced the first coronavirus death in India.
An Indian state health minister announced India’s first COVID-19 fatality as a 76-year-old man who was tested positive for coronavirus has died.
This, as B Sriramulu, health minister for Karnataka state, announced through its Twitter account that the man, who lived in Kalburgi, India, “has been confirmed for #COVID19,” adding that “the necessary contact tracing, isolation & other measures as per protocol are being carried out.”

As reported by the Press Trust of India, the 76-year-old man, who returned to India from Saudi Arabia, died on Tuesday night. Based on a tally from Johns Hopkins University, India has a total of 73 confirmed cases of coronavirus disease or COVID-19.
The virus, as of this writing, killed over 4,600 people and infected more than 127,000.
