RITM Testing For COVID-19 ‘Reliable’, Says DOH

The RITM testing for possible COVID-19 infection was “reliable”, according to the Department of Health (DOH).

The Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM) method used in testing samples from patients under investigations (PUIs) for possible COVID-19 infection was “reliable”, according to the Department of Health (DOH).

This, as Health Secretary Francisco Duque III said in a press briefing on Wednesday that he was confident of the RITM testing method, adding that the test kits used in RITM were different from the rapid diagnostic test (RDT) kits used by South Korea and Japan. Duque reported that for four weeks, the Philippines has not recorded instances of local transmission and new coronavirus (COVID-19) cases.

As of this writing, the latest data from the DOH’s tracker showed that there were only 37 PUIs admitted in different facilities within the Philippines, while 629 patients have been discharged for testing negative for COVID-19. The Department of Health (DOH) was expanding its testing capability by adding laboratories that could test samples from cases the RITM can no longer accommodate.
