Panasonic To Shut Down Operations At Nevada Gigafactory

Panasonic will close its operations at the Nevada gigafactory.

Panasonic, Tesla’s partner was pulling its 3,500 employees from its Nevada gigafactory over concerns about the spread of COVID-19.

This, as Panasonic said that it will ramp down operations early next week and then close for 14 days, adding that this move only affects its employees.

Tesla also employed thousands of workers at the Gigafactory 1 in Sparks, Nevada. However, Tesla has yet to release the statement.

According to Panasonic spokesperson Alberto Canal, the company was committed to safeguarding the health and well-being of its employees, adding that Panasonic’s employees impacted by the said closure will receive their full salary and benefits for the 14-day period.

Canal also said that the company has enacted several measures “to enhance the cleanliness of the facility, encourage social distancing, and enable simple, safe and effective behaviors”.
