Man Loses Money By Attempting To Disinfect Banknotes Using Microwave

A man from South Korea used his microwave to disinfect his banknotes, lost most of his money instead.

A man from South Korea shared photos of his “burned banknotes” after attempting to disinfect his money using a microwave.

This, as the man, identified as Mr. Lee, has microwaved over 1.8 million South Korean won (equivalent to ~PHP 76,190) worth of Korean banknotes in order to disinfect his money due to coronavirus outbreak, yet was unfortunately left with only 950,000 South Korean won (equivalent to ~PHP 40,250) following his attempt.

Mr. Lee, a man who lived in Gyeongsangbuk-do in South Korea, placed thirty-six KRW 50,000 banknotes inside the microwave in order to disinfect it through heat. Unfortunately, his attempt led him to lose almost half of his banknotes.

It was advised in South Korea not to put banknotes inside the microwave as it was very dangerous and may lead to big accidents. The KRW banknotes have anti-counterfeiting features — including metal bands and holograms — that can cause fires from the electromagnetic radiation from the microwave.
