Hackers became the target of other hackers, according to a recent malware campaign.
A malware campaign suggested that hackers became the target of other hackers who were infecting and repackaging hacking tools with malware.
This, as researcher Amit Serper of Cybereason found that the hackers were taking existing hacking tools and injecting a remote-access trojan malware. When the tools were opened, the hackers have full access to the hackers’ computers.
Amit Serper said that the hackers were “baiting” other hackers just by sharing their repackaged tools on different hacking forums, adding that those maliciously-repackaged tools were not only opening a backdoor to the hackers’ systems, but also any system that hackers has already breached — including offensive security researchers working on red team engagements.
Aside from those hackers who were targeted by the trojanized hacking tools connecting to the “7777server”, Cybereason was “unable to ascertain the other victims” that the malware campaign was targeting. To know more about Serper’s study, you can read it here.
