DOLE To Provide Financial Assistance For Displaced Works

DOLE Will Provide Financial Assistance to workers displaced by COVID-19.

The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) will be reportedly providing financial assistance to workers displaced by COVID-19.

This, after President Rodrigo Duterte has placed the entire Luzon under enhanced community quarantine to contain the coronavirus disease. As reported by the Philippine Star, the DOLE program was open for all workers — whether they’re “no work, no pay” workers, contractual, or regularized.

According to the Trade Union Congress of the Philippines (TUCP), 6,000 workers have been displaced as businesses have been closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. With this, the DOLE has set aside a PHP 2 billion budget for financial assistance.

DOLE Undersecretary Benjo Benavidez said that workers may choose not to report to their work and use their leave credits as well during the quarantine period, adding that those workers who underwent a mandatory quarantine but have exhausted their leave credits will be provided financial assistance by the department.

Benavidez also said that the department has yet to release the guidelines of DOLE’s program, adding that the said program would provide qualified workers with a monthly salary.
