Gov’t Not To Tolerate Abuse Of Broadcast Privilege, Says Duterte

President Rodrigo Duterte on Wednesday, February 12, said that the government will not tolerate any abuse of broadcast privilege.

This, as President Rodrigo Duterte issued a statement before Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas (KBP)’s new officers and board of trustees in the Palace, following the Office of the Solicitor General (OSG)’s quo warranto petition against ABS-CBN.

In his statement, the President said that the function of the broadcast was “a privilege granted by [the] government,” while the Philippine Constitution “upholds the freedom of the press.” He added that the role of the media was to tell the truth and this was inspired by the interest of the people.

The President also said that the government will not tolerate any abuse of broadcast privilege,” adding that the government should “not begrudge anything that is publicized or brought out in public in your desire to perform your duties.”
