Eliseo Rio said Monday that he resigned from his post as the undersecretary of the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT).
Rio released a copy of his resignation letter dated January 30.
Rio told President Rodrigo Duterte in his letter that it was an honor for him to lead the department’s selection for the Philippines’ third telco.
A consortium between Udenna Corp and China Telecom, DITO Telecommunity was named as the third telco player to challenge the dominance of PLDT Inc. and Globe Telecom.
Previously, DICT Secretary Gregorio B. Honasan II called the executives of DITO Telecommunity to have a closed-door meeting in order to discuss the status of DITO’s program.
Eliseo Rio was a licensed Electronics and Communications Engineer who ranked 4th in the ECE Board Exams in 1971. He was appointed to the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) in 2001 after retiring as brigadier general of the Philippine Army.
Rio was the officer-in-charge of the DICT before the appointment of former Senator Gringo Honasan as the DICT Secretary. Rio also led the DICT in the selection for the Philippines’ third telco.
