As of Monday morning, January 27, at least six private schools, including Chinese schools, announced the suspension of classes in connection to the novel coronavirus that has originated from Wuhan in China.
Education Secretary Leonor Briones said in a press conference that private schools have a “greater degree of autonomy” and they can suspend their classes if they want to. She added that these private schools will have to conduct make-up classes in order for the students to have enough face-to-face interactions with their teachers.
In addition, Briones said that the Department of Education (DepEd) will ask the private schools to coordinate with the Department of Health.
