IATF Will “Strongly Consider” NCR Mayors’ Proposal For Additional 15-Day ECQ Extension, According To DILG
The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) on Saturday said that the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-MEID) will “strongly consider” the recommendation for a possible additional 15-day extension of the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) in Metro Manila.
This, after Paranaque Mayor Edwin Olivarez, the chairman of the Metro Manila Council, previously said that the council may formalize the proposal for an additional 15-day ECQ extension via resolution, adding that the said proposal may be required in order to prevent the “second wave” of coronavirus infections in the National Capital Region.
In an interview on GMA Network’s Dobol B sa News TV, DILG Spokesperson Interior Undersecretary Jonathan Malaya said that the DILG respect the proposal of Metro Manila Council as they’re partnering with the mayors in imposing the ECQ in the region, adding that the IATF will carefully study and will give weight to the council’s proposal.
Malaya also said that the IATF may announce its decision on May 13 or 14 on whether or not to extend the ECQ in Metro Manila for an additional 15 days.
Previously, Paranaque Mayor Edwin Olivarez said that mayors favored a metro-wide extension because the cities and municipalities in Metro Manila were “very interconnected”.
The recommendation came as the extension of the enhanced community quarantine in Metro Manila, through Executive Order No. 112 dated May 1, 2020, was about to end on May 15, 2020.
