DOCTOR – A young female physician revealed why she almost gave up to COVID-19 and what made her fight.
Philippines is one of the countries with confirmed cases of COVID-19 or coronavirus, a disease that was first recorded in China. It is now a pandemic and, according to the World Health Organization (WHO), it is going to be a long-term battle against the disease.
In PH, there is currently a total of 8,488 cases of coronavirus confirmed in the country. Out of the total number, 568 people died including some doctors.
More than 1,000 medical frontliners were infected by the disease. Some of them are already recovering from the disease including Dr. Carmina Fuentebella.
Dr. Fuentebella, a 26-year-old doctor when she was infected with COVID-19, contracted the disease while treating patients. She initially felt back pain and fever. She was in a critical condition and had to be intubated.
Based on a video posted by ABS-CBN News, Dra. Fuentebella stressed that the tube was painful and she cannot move and speak. Every four (4) hours, a suctioned is performed to remove the phlegm and she will vomit.
“Everyday ‘yun gagawin… Napakasakit n’ya… Sabi ko doon sa mga co-residents ko ayoko na. Tanggalin na lang ‘yung tubo ko kasi pagod na pagod na ako,” the physician said.
Based on the video, the family and friends of the doctor find ways to motivate her to fight for her life. Her fellow medical frontliners posted photos on her room and it gave her inspiration to fight against COVID-19.
“Every day kong tinitingnan ‘yon. ‘Pag may mga oras na gusto ko na mag-give up, sisilipin ko ulit isa-isa ‘yung pictures namin na magkakasama tapos doon ko maiisip kailangan ko na namang lumaban ngayon,” she said.
Dr. Fuentebella stressed that COVID-19 is not exempting anyone regardless of age. Based on the video, she is now recovering and believe that her experience was given to her so she can be a better doctor. She is determined to be back on the front line against coronavirus after she will get better.
