South Korean pop superstars BLACKPINK was reportedly appointed as UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) advocates.
Recently, the United Nations (UN) announced that it had officially named BLACKPINK as its newest Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) advocate.
The organization shared in a tweet that UN Secretary-General António Guterres appointed the girl group as new advocates on September 18.

YG Entertainment, according to a report on Soompi, said that BLACKPINK was the first Asian artist to be selected as a UN SDG advocate.
“We are honored to be joining this journey towards a better world,” BLACKPINK said.
GMA News Online reported that UN’s Sustainable Development Goals were a shared blueprint for promoting prosperity and protecting the planet by 2030.
At its core were 17 goals that addressed a range of social needs which included “education, health, social protection, job opportunities” as well as environmental protection and climate change.

As new advocates, the group was tasked to help raise awareness about different goals and the importance of achieving them.
Aside from BLACKPINK, the United Nations also named Nobel Peace Laureate Kailash Satyarthi, Microsoft president Brad Smith, and STEM activist Chica Rosadita as SDG advocates as well.

BLACKPINK was appointed as the UN Climate Change Conference (COP26) advocate before they became SDG advocates.
