Yahoo was set to shut down Yahoo Answers on May 4, 2021.

Yahoo officially announced that the company was set to shut down its social question-and-answer platform Yahoo Answers on May 4, 2021.

In a report on Yugatech, Yahoo users won’t be able to post new Yahoo Answers questions or to answer other users’ questions on April 20 (Eastern Time).

However, Yahoo Answers will no longer be accessible on May 4, adding that users who will try to access the site will be redirected to the main Yahoo page.

Yahoo Answers had been operating since 2005.

Yahoo also mentioned that there would be no changes to other Yahoo properties or services despite Yahoo Answers’ shutdown.

To that end, we have decided to shift our resources away from Yahoo Answers to focus on products that better serve our members and deliver on Yahoo’s promise of providing premium trusted content,” Yahoo said in an email sent to active members of Yahoo Answers.

Meanwhile, Yahoo Answers users have the option to download their content. However, they must request to download their data before June 30, 2021.

As per the FAQ page of Yahoo, it could take up to 30 days for the request to finish processing, adding that users will be notified via email when the download was ready.

Do note that once a download was requested for Yahoo Answers, another download request can’t be made for Yahoo Answers until the original request was made or canceled. Visit this link to download Yahoo Answers data.

Yugatech also said that Yahoo Answers data download will return all user-generated content — including Questions list, Answers list, Questions, Answers, and any images.

However, Yahoo Answers users won’t be able to download other users’ questions, content, or answers.
