A Woman Faked Terminal Cancer To Pay For “Dream Wedding”
WOMAN FAKED TERMINAL CANCER – A woman blatantly tricked her family and friends into thinking she had a severe disease in order to pay for her “dream wedding”.
According to reports, the woman was identified as Toni Standen, 29, from West Derby. She reached out to her family and friends and said that she had terminal cancer.
Because of her con, she managed to trick them into giving out £8,500 ($11,300) to pay for her “dream wedding”. To make things even more legitimate, she shaved her head and even got local media outlets to interview her.
Additionally, she told reporters that her cancer had “spread everywhere”. Furthermore, she told her friends that she wanted her dad, who was legitimately terminally ill, to walk her down the aisle during her wedding.
As such, her loving friends created a GoFundMe account for her urging people to give her and her partner, James, “the wedding the deserve”.
Sadly, her dad, Derek, died before the wedding. However, there was a pre-recorded video played during the ceremony. But, suspicion quickly rose after Standen began telling jokes just after the video was played.
According to an article from Ladbible, one of the guests said:
After hearing her father’s labored words she got up and gave a faultless speech, even cracking a few jokes.
“Her mother and brother were in bits. We’d all just listened to a father of the bride message from beyond the grave.”
Unfortunately for the con-artists, she got exposed after claiming to have contracted COVID-19 earlier this year. After this, she was quickly confronted for her actions.
Afterward, her friends immediately called the police the moment stranded confessed. Since then, she pleaded guilty to fraud by false representation.
