Pres. Bongbong Marcos Speaks Before Flood-hit Cebu over Government’s New Program
BONGBONG MARCOS – The President expressed his confidence on the government’s newly-launched program, the “Oplan Kontra Baha”.
Several regions in the Philippines experienced massive flooding amid the recent typhoons that struck the country. With the nation being within the Pacific Ring of Fire, it is usually hit by several natural calamities in a year but the recent typhoon Tino brought a devastating flood in Cebu.

Pres. Ferdinand Marcos Jr. previously apologized to the victims of the flood triggered by typhoon Tino. In Cebu, the floodwater level rose fast after the dams overflowed and countless residence had to climb their roofs to avoid the rising floodwater. Aside from the flood, the strong winds also damaged countless houses.

Many Filipino families in Cebu were left homeless by typhoon Tino. Unfortunately, the list of fatalities went beyond 200 and many families lost multiple members to the calamity. Cebu Governor Pam Baricuatro was left with questions why the province was still flooded despite the P26 billion flood control funds.
According to the Cebu Governor, she submitted the reports to the Independent Commission for Infrastructure or ICI, the independent body formed under the order of Pres. Bongbong Marcos for the flood control issue’s investigation. Previously, Malacañang claimed that if the Cebu Governor is mad over what happened to the province, the President also feels the same.

Typhoon Tino was followed by super typhoon Uwan which also brought flooding in several areas in the country. Recently, following the massive flooding in many parts of PH due to typhoon Tino and super typhoon Uwan, the government launched the “Oplan Kontra Baha”. Based on a post of GMA News, Pres. Bongbong Marcos is confident that the newly-launched program will ease the flooding in the country.
“Ang projection natin, ang pangako sa atin… one year… ang pangako sa akin, ‘pag ka umulan ulit, hindi na magbabaha,” the President said.

The kickoff of Oplan Kontra Baha was held at Mahiga Creek near the M. Logarta Bridge which is located between Cebu City and Mandaue City. Based on the report, Pres. Bongbong Marcos witnessed the waste removal, dredging, and the cleaning of the waterways in Mahiga Creek. Some illegal structures were also removed to restore the natural flow of the water.
Previously, amid countless Filipinos mourning the deaths of their loved ones to the recent typhoons that caused massive flooding in several parts of the country, Ombudsman Boying Remulla vowed that justice will be pursued for the typhoon Tino flood victims.
