Ombudsman Boying Remulla Wants 2016 Dismissal Order vs. Joel Villanueva Enforced

Amid the Corruption Issue in PH, Ombudsman Boying Remulla To Write Letter to SP Tito Sotto

Ombudsman Boying Remulla wants the dismissal order against Senator Joel Villanueva issued in 2016 over the Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF) issue to be enforced.

Some senators were tagged in the flood control mess in the Philippines. A dismissed engineer of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), Brice Hernandez, tagged senators Joel Villanueva and Jinggoy Estrada in the supposed flood control corruption issue.

Both Villanueva and Estrada denied the allegations. The senators even offered to have their bank accounts opened. Then, both of them occupy key positions in the Senate — Villanueva was the floor majority leader while Estrada was the Senate President Pro Tempore. The accusation earned them massive criticisms.

However, amid his denial, a photo showing Sen. Joel Villanueva and his family on the same boat with former DPWH official Henry Alcantara crossed the surface. Alcantara is one of the DPWH officials tagged in the supposed multi-billion flood control scam.

Amid the criticisms, Villanueva maintained his innocence in the issue. However, not only his photo with Alcantara circulated on social media. The past corruption allegations against him also crossed the surface. Ombudsman Boying Remulla even confirmed that he will ask Senate Pres. Tito Sotto to enforce the dismissal order against Sen. Joel Villanueva.

Based on a post of ABS-CBN News on social media, in 2016, then-Ombudsman Conchita Carpio-Morales issued a dismissal order against Sen. Joel Villanueva. It was over his alleged misuse of the PDAF when he was the representative of the CIBAC partylist.

According to Ombudsman Boying Remulla, he will write the letter for Senate Pres. Tito Sotto today in the pursuit of requesting him to enforce the 2016 dismissal order of Sen. Joel Villanueva. Based on the post, the country’s chief graft-buster said he will personally deliver the letter to the Senate President on Friday.

Sen. Joel Villanueva was vocal about his disappointment over the Philippines’ alleged lack of flood control master plan. Following the Senate shakeup amid the flood control mess, the Senator is now part of the minority bloc in the chamber.
