Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano Willing To Resign First Following ‘Snap Election’ Thought

ALAN PETER CAYETANO – The Senate Minority Leader claimed that he is ready to resign from his position first but he has a condition.

The supposed multi-billion flood control corruption in the Philippines left countless Filipinos disappointed. Several officials of the government are accused of involvement in the flood control corruption. The Discayas claimed that former House Speaker Martin Romualdez, resigned Ako Bicol Partylist Representative Zaldy Co, Quezon Congressman Arjo Atayde, Marikina Cong. Marcy Teodoro, and Pasig Cong. Aside from the congressmen, some senators were also linked to the flood control issue. Sen. Chiz Escudero is accused of allegedly receiving a P160-million kickback from the flood control projects aside from the issue of receiving a P30-million campaign donation from a contractor. He denied the allegation and claimed that Romualdez is allegedly the mastermind behind the accusations against the senators.

Following the thought floated by Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano, countless Filipinos claimed that he should be the first to resign. There are calls for him to resign as well. The brother of Senator Alan, former Taguig Mayor Lino Cayetano, dared the Senator to be the first to resign.

Recently, Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano broke his silence on the calls for him to resign first. Based on a post of Inquirer, the Senator is willing to be the first to step down but the other officials should resign after him.

“Pangungunahan ko. Payag akong mauna, no problem. Mauna means lahat kami, walang nagsasabing ikaw mag-isa. Kung mag-isa ako, hindi mangyayari ‘yun. Ang ano natin national renewal, diba? So pag sinabi nating korap ‘yung media, lahat tayo mag resign. May mauuna talaga pero sasabay lahat. ‘Pag isa lang nag resign, walang mangyayari, di ba?” he said.

During the press con, Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano claimed that if he will be the only one who will step down from office, it will not solve the problem. He stressed that he is proposing for a transformation rather than a revolution.

“Ang sinasabi ko, mag-sacrifice tayo… Gusto nila ako lang mag-isa. No problem kung ‘yun ang gusto niyo pero it will not solve the problem. The problem will have new hope if we do it all as a group. Kung gusto niyong mauna ako basta’t may assurance akong susunod kayo,” the Senator said.

Amid the thought of the Senator, the Commission on Elections or Comelec spoke on the “snap election” mentioned by Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano amid the flood control mess in the Philippines.
