Complaint Filed vs. Sen. Chiz Escudero before the Senate Ethics Committee
CHIZ ESCUDERO – The Senator claimed that the ethics complaint filed against him is allegedly the payback for his mentioning of the name of former House Speaker Martin Romualdez.
Many Filipinos were left disappointed by the alleged involvement of several government officials in the flood control issue in the Philippines. Among them are senators and congressmen who are accused of allegedly receiving kickback from the flood control projects. Several names were mentioned during the House of Representatives and the Senate flood probe.
Both the Senate and the House had a change of leaderships amid the flood control mess in the country. Sen. Chiz Escudero was ousted and replaced by now-Senate Pres. Tito Sotto after he admitted to receiving a P30-million campaign donation from a contractor.
According to the contractor linked to Sen. Chiz Escudero, the P30-million that he donated for his campaign allegedly came from his own pocket. Recently, a complaint was filed against the Senator before the Senate Ethics Committee.
Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, Sen. JV Ejercito, the chairman of the Senate Committee on Ethics and Privileges, confirmed that an ethics complaint was filed against Escudero. According to Ejercito, he has just assumed the committee chairmanship and he still has to discuss the matter with the members of the committee.
The said ethics complaint against Sen. Chiz Escudero was due to the P30-million campaign donation that he received from a contractor. Recently, the Senator broke his silence on the matter and once again mentioned the name of presidential cousin and former House Speaker Martin Romualdez.
“Ito ang kabayaran sa pagbanggit ko sa pangalan ni Martin Romualdez at sa pagbubunyag sa katotohanan. This is just part of the harassment from his minions,” Escudero claimed.
According to the Senator, the ethics complaint filed against him is allegedly a “desperate smokescreen”. He previously threw tirades against Romualdez during a Senate privilege speech.
Sen. Chiz Escudero accused Cong. Martin Romualdez of allegedly masterminding the accusations of flood control corruption against the senators. He stressed that he is not afraid of Romualdez who is supposedly behind the “script and zarzuela”.
