Japanese-built Cebu Bridge Stands Strong despite the 6.9 Magnitude Earthquake

CEBU BRIDGE – The Marcelo Fernan Bridge built by Japanese engineers stood strong despite the 6.9 magnitude earthquake that hit the province.

Several structures in Cebu were left damaged after a 6.9 magnitude earthquake hit the province. The strong shaking was felt in several cities and municipalities in the Visayas region. According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs), the epicenter of the quake was located in Bogo City.

Phivolcs warned that aftershocks and damages are expected of the strong quake that triggered the evacuation of countless patients from several hospitals in Cebu. Deaths were record of the said quake and Pres. Ferdinand Marcos Jr. already ordered the government agencies to help the victims of the 6.9 magnitude earthquake in Cebu. Rescuers continue their search operations.

Several houses in Cebu were greatly damaged. A church was also damaged by the strong quake and even fast food chains were affected as well. Amid the damages caused by the 6.9 magnitude earthquake in Cebu, a Cebu bridge built by Japanese engineers, the Marcelo Fernan Bridge, stood strong.

Based on a post on the Facebook page Cebu ni bai, the Marcelo Fernan Bridge was built in the 1990s with the expertise of Japanese engineers. The said Cebu bridge was funded with the help of the government of Japan.
