Raffy Tulfo Backs Chiz Escudero for Senate President: “Wala akong nakitang problema”

Sen. Raffy Tulfo Defends Support to Senate Pres. Chiz Escudero

RAFFY TULFO – The Senator confirmed his support to Senate President Chiz Escudero to remain in his position in the 20th Congress.

Currently, there are two (2) names that float when it comes to the possible Senate presidency in the 20th Congress — Senate Pres. Chiz Escudero and incoming Sen. Tito Sotto. The latter is a former Senate chief who led the chamber in the 18th Congress.

Tito Sotto, Chiz Escudero

Incoming Sen. Tito Sotto previously said he is willing to be the Senate president in the 20th Congress if he has the numbers. He also claimed that there are people who allegedly reached out to him and convinced him to vie for the Senate presidency.

Senate Pres. Chiz Escudero also said he is open to lead the chamber again in the 20th Congress. Previously, Sen. Joel Villanueva claimed that at least 13 senators allegedly back the leadership of Escudero. Incoming Sen. Erwin Tulfo previously revealed his and his brother’s vote for the Senate presidency.

According to the incoming Senator, he and his brother will support Senate Pres. Chiz Escudero to remain in his position. Recently, Sen. Raffy Tulfo confirmed the previous claim of his younger brother and revealed the reason behind his decision.

Based on a report on Daily Tribune, Sen. Raffy Tulfo claimed that he and Senate Pres. Chiz Escudero share the same work ethics. He stressed that the Senate President is aggressive when he wants a bill to be passed into law most especially when it comes to priority bills.

Pinu-push niya talaga. In fact, he will even to the extent of calling my staff, ano bang problema, paano ba ako makatulong. And then, kung minsan siya pa mismo ang nagpapapirma para mapabilis yung proseso,” Tulfo said.

Sen. Raffy Tulfo also said he does not know incoming Sen. Tito Sotto’s work ethics nor his leadership as they have yet to work together. Based on the report, he stressed that with Senate Pres. Chiz Escudero, he does not see any problem that sparks a need for a change in leadership.

“Unlike kay Chiz, naranasan ko and wala akong nakitang problema. Sabi nga nila, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it,” the Senator said.

Tulfo confirmed that the camp of Sotto tried to reach out to him but it was simply too late. Aside from the Senator, another lawmaker, Sen. JV Ejercito, also claimed that he will support Escudero for the Senate presidency in the 20th Congress. He claimed that it is a tough decision to make as he is grateful to both Sotto and Escudero.
