Lawyer of Former Negros Oriental Cong. Arnie Teves Speaks on his Condition
ARNIE TEVES – The former Negros Oriental Congressman is set to undergo a major surgery after experiencing “severe stomach pains”.
After two (2) years of refusing to return to the Philippines, former Negros Oriental Cong. Teves is now under the custody of the Philippine authorities. Last month, the businessman-politician was arrested by the immigration officers in Timor-Leste.

Teves’ arrest was allegedly due to a lack of a valid travel VISA as well as an authorization to stay in the country. It was his son, Axl Teves, who shared about the former Negros Oriental Congressman’s arrest on social media. The camp of the former Congressman challenged his detention and it was granted by the court.

However, the government of Timor-Leste ordered to deport Arnie Teves and it was immediately arranged with the coordination with the Philippine authorities. The former Negros Oriental Congressman who is accused as the mastermind in the killing of the late former Negros Oriental Governor Roel Degamo boarded the Philippine Air Force plane back to the country.

On his way to the country, Arnie Teves even requested the authorities not to put handcuff on him but his plea was denied. Despite the former Negros Oriental Congressman’s appeal that handcuffs are painful, the authorities explained that it is part of their Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) which they must follow.
Upon his return to the Philippines, Teves faced the media with his lawyer, Atty. Ferdinand Topacio, and his mother. According to the businessman-politician, he is both sad and happy over his return to the country. He stressed that he is happy to finally see his mother again after two (2) years but also sad that he will be under detention while the legal process is ongoing.
However, recently, Arnie Teves was rushed to an undisclosed hospital. According to his lawyer, Atty. Ferdinand Topacio, the former Negros Oriental Congressman was suffering from “severe stomach pain”. His camp refused to disclose the hospital where he was brought for security reasons.
Recently, Atty. Topacio gave an update about Teves. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the former Negros Oriental Congressman is set to undergo a major surgery which is “appendectomy” at a public hospital. The said procedure is conducted to remove an infected appendix before it bursts.

Previously, following the deportation of Arnie Teves, Pres. Bongbong Marcos said that “lawlessness will not go unpunished”. The former Negros Oriental Congressman previously denied the allegations of killings against him.
