How Otap & Journal Helped Neri Naig Through Her Darkest Days
NERI NAIG – Through junk journaling and the familiar taste of otap, Neri Naig managed to hold onto hope during her time behind bars.
Actress-turned-entrepreneur Neri Naig Miranda recently opened up about a unique source of comfort during one of the darkest moments in her life—otap, a popular Filipino delicacy. In a heartfelt Instagram post, Neri shared how the sweet, crunchy treat helped her sort through her thoughts while she was in jail.
Neri was previously arrested due to charges of estafa and alleged violations of the Securities Regulation Code, though the Pasay City RTC Branch 112 has since dismissed the case. During her time in prison, she found solace in otap, which, she revealed, kept her company. “Otap din ang kasama ko nung nakulong ako,” she wrote.

Aside from enjoying the snack, Neri saved the wrappers to include in her journal—a habit she’s had since childhood. She described her practice of “junk journaling,” where she collects and repurposes memorable items like candy wrappers, receipts, and tickets to document her life.
“Yup. Totoo ‘yan. Tinabi ko pa ‘yung mga balot para maidikit sa journal ko,” she said, explaining how journaling has always been her way of holding on to meaningful experiences.
Though she didn’t delve into the details of her time behind bars, Neri emphasized how journaling became an essential tool in her healing process. “Kahit hindi ko masabi sa asawa ko o sa mga anak ko ‘yung bigat na nararamdaman ko, sa journal ko ko nalalabas,” she wrote, adding that writing helps her manage anxiety and emotional weight.

In her post, Neri also encouraged her followers who may be going through their own struggles. “Malalampasan din natin ‘to,” she assured, acknowledging the loneliness that often comes with hardship. Her message was one of hope and resilience, emphasizing the power of self-support and faith.
“May kakampi ka… ang sarili mo. At higit sa lahat, si God,” she concluded, leaving her followers with a reminder that even in solitude, they are never truly alone.
