Presumptive Senator Tito Sotto Speaks on Senate Presidency
TITO SOTTO – Returning Senator Vicente Sotto III confirmed that he is open to be the Senate President in the 20th Congress.
In the 2025 Elections, Pres. Bongbong Marcos endorsed the Alyansa Para Sa Pagbabago senatorial bets which he called his “dream team”. One of the senatorial candidates under the grand alliance is former Sen. Sotto who previously ran for the vice presidency but lost to Vice Pres. Sara Duterte.

Now that the 2025 Elections are over and more than 99% of the election returns have been transmitted, six (6) senatorial candidates endorsed by the Alyansa are poised to win. Former Sen. Tito Sotto occupied the 8th spot with 14,795,376 votes.

The other Alyansa bets who made it to the Top 12 are social welfare secretary Erwin Tulfo, former Sen. Ping Lacson, Sen. Pia Cayetano, Las Piñas district Representative Camille Villar, and former Sen. Lito Lapid. Here are the presumptive senators in the 20th Congress:
- Go, Christopher ‘Bong”
- Aquino, Bam
- Dela Rosa, Ronald “Bato”
- Tulfo, Erwin
- Pangilinan, Kiko
- Marcoleta, Rodante
- Lacson, Ping
- Sotto, Tito
- Cayetano, Pia
- Villar, Camille
- Lapid, Lito
- Marcos, Imee

Former Sen. Tito Sotto was the Senate President from May 2018 until the end of his second term as senator in June 2022. Amid his looming return to the Senate, he was asked if he will seek the Senate helm again. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, Sotto affirmed.
“If I have the necessary number I will accept,” the presumptive senator said.
Currently, the Senate President is Chiz Escudero. Several senators including Sen. Cynthia Villar who is on her third term as senator and Sen. Bong Revilla who’s senatorial reelection bid failed are set to exit the upper chamber.
The Senate is gearing up for the upcoming impeachment trial of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte. Recently, Senate Pres. Chiz Escudero showed the robe that he will use in Duterte’s impeachment trial. It will be the same robe that the senator-judges will wear. As of this writing, there are still no details as to who will be the set of senator-judges in the impeachment trial.
Ahead of the proceedings, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte claimed she is ready whether she will be acquitted or found guilty in her impeachment trial. She stressed that she is “at peace” whatever the outcome will be.
