Senate Pres. Chiz Escudero Clarified Vice Pres. Sara Duterte’s Impeachment Trial To Push Through
CHIZ ESCUDERO – The Senate President showed the official robe that he will wear in the impeachment trial of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte.
Even before the controversial arrest of former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte last March 11, there was already a looming impeachment trial against Vice Pres. Sara Duterte. The Vice President was impeached by the House of Representatives last February 5.
Amid the calls to start the impeachment trial right away, Senate Pres. Chiz Escudero insisted that no amount of signatures will amend the law and convince him to start Duterte’s impeachment trial amid a Senate session break. He also stressed that the Senate follows a legislative calendar.
Amid the arrest and the transfer of custody of former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte to the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague, Netherlands, Senate Pres. Chiz Escudero assured that the impeachment trial of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte will push through. The prosecution team also previously said they are “ready” for the trial.
Vice Pres. Sara Duterte stayed for more than three (3) weeks in The Hague for former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte. When she returned in the Philippines in the first week of April, the Vice President met with her legal team for her impeachment trial. She previously said that her legal team was already prepared even before the arrest of her father.
Her lawyers are “more than confident” to win the impeachment trial according to Vice Pres. Sara Duterte. The Vice President said that she is most confident with the lawyers who are handling her impeachment trial.

Based on the report, the above-cited robe of Senate Pres. Chiz Escudero is modeled after the robes used during the impeachment trial of former Chief Justice Renato Corona. Previously, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte said that she already accepted whatever will be the outcome of her impeachment trial.
