House Speaker Martin Romualdez Asked about the Attempt To File Impeachment Complaint vs. Pres. Bongbong Marcos

MARTIN ROMUALDEZ – The House Speaker reacted to the impeachment complaint against President Bongbong Marcos by the Cardema couple.

Recently, the attention of many Filipinos were hooked when a couple tried to file an impeachment complaint against Pres. Bongbong Marcos. The complainants are Duterte Youth Party-List chairperson Ronald Cardema and his wife, Diucelle Marie.

However, the Cardema couple failed to file the impeachment complaint against PBBM. The Office of the Secretary General did not accept the impeachment complaint because the Secretary General was not around. Also, the office is reportedly set for a strategical planning session from May 5 to 8.

In their impeachment complaint versus Marcos Jr., the complainant accused the President of alleged betrayal of public trust and violation of the Philippine Constitution over the arrest of former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte. The former President was arrested last March 11 and is currently detained under the custody of the International Criminal Court (ICC).

Duterte was brought to The Hague, Netherlands on the same day that he was arrested by the Philippine authorities. According to the Cardema couple, the former President was allegedly denied of his right to due process.

The Duterte Youth Party-List chairperson and his wife plan to return to the House of Representatives next week to file the impeachment complaint. Recently, presidential cousin and House Speaker Martin Romualdez was asked of his reaction to the impeachment complaint against Pres. Bongbong Marcos.

Based on a post of Inquirer on Facebook, House Speaker Martin Romualdez stressed that the congress is currently on a session break. According to him, nothing much can be done about it.

“We’re not in session right now so not much can be done, di ba? At sa alam ko po, miski ‘yung SecGen’s office naka seminar sila ngayon so we have to wait for the proper time to consider that,” Romualdez said.

House Speaker Martin Romualdez was also asked about the timing of the filing of the impeachment complaint against Pres. Bongbong Marcos. Based on the post, he raised a question on what pushed the complainants to make the move.

“Well… I really don’t know what inspired them. Hayaan mo na lang sila,” he said.

Aside from Pres. Bongbong Marcos, House Speaker Martin Romualdez also campaigns for Marcos’ Alyansa bets in the upcoming May 2025 Elections.
