Sen. Bato dela Rosa Speaks on Next Steps If ICC Releases Arrest Warrant
BATO DELA ROSA – The former Philippine National Police (PNP) chief turned Senator affirmed that hiding is a possibility if the International Criminal Court (ICC) issues an arrest warrant against him.
The arrest of former President Rodrigo Roa Duterte shocked countless Filipinos. A week ago, the PNP authorities arrested Duterte upon his arrival at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) over an arrest warrant issued by the ICC.
Duterte just arrived from Hong Kong when the unexpected turn of events transpired. According to Pres. Bongbong Marcos, the government had to act on the arrest of the former President as it upholds its commitment with the Interpol.
Marcos Jr. claimed that the Philippine government did not perform on the arrest because it came from the ICC but because of its commitment with the Interpol. The Palace defended the Chief Executive from “betrayal” criticisms. It stressed that the government only did its job.
Sen. Bato dela Rosa tagged Pres. Bongbong Marcos’ move on Duterte’s arrest as a “betrayal to the max”. He claimed that the President did not stand by his words. According to him, in case the ICC will also issue an arrest warrant against him, he might turn to the protection that the Senate can extend to him as an institution.
The said pronouncement of Dela Rosa followed his prior statement that he is ready to be with Duterte and take care of the former President in case all legal remedies have been availed but they did not work on his favor.
Recently, Sen. Bato dela Rosa has a new pronouncement regarding the possibility of the ICC issuing a warrant of arrest against him. Based on a report on GMA News, the Senator who was the PNP chief during Duterte’s term downplayed surrendering to the authorities.
“Well, kung wala tayong makita na na hustisya dito sa ating bansa, bakit ka susuko? ‘Di ba?” the Senator said.
Based on the report, Sen. Bato dela Rosa was asked if he is considering hiding from the authorities in case the ICC issues a warrant of arrest against him. The former PNP Chief affirmed that it is one of his courses of action.
“Kasama ‘yan, kasama ‘yan. Kasama ‘yan sa courses of action natin,” Dela Rosa expressed.
Previously, Sen. Bato dela Rosa claimed that he can defend himself at the ICC even if he is not a lawyer in case his lawyer can’t.
