Senate Pres. Chiz Escudero Speaks on Viral Issue about Posting Messages Screenshots
CHIZ ESCUDERO – The Senate President believes that posting screenshots of text messages on social media is illegal.
The recent issue involving on-screen partners Anthony Jennings and Maris Racal and the actor’s former girlfriend, Jamela Villanueva, hooked the social media by storm. Anthony Jennings’ ex-girlfriend posted on social media the alleged “betrayal” of the actor and Maris Racal when they were still together.
Jam Villanueva posted screenshots of the alleged private conversation between Anthony Jennings and Maris Racal. Some parts of the private messages went viral on social media and countless netizens poked fun on the alleged conversation of the two (2) celebrities.
Maris and Anthony also earned a lot of criticisms for the alleged “betrayal”. The actor and Jam were together for seven (7) years. They were boyfriend-girlfriend even before he became an actor. On the other side of the criticisms towards the two (2) celebrities, there action of Jam posting the private conversation of Anthony and Maris also earned different sides.
There are many claims that what Jamela Villanueva did is allegedly not proper and it is supposedly punishable under law. There are also those who sympathized with the situation of Jam citing her pain of being betrayed. Recently, Senate Pres. Chiz Escudero spoke about posting screenshots of text messages on social media.
Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, Senate Pres. Chiz Escudero said that posting screenshots of text messages on social media is illegal. According to the Senator, the messages may be deleted or the user may also make use of the vanishing or disappearing messages feature in the online platforms but he admitted that the latter may be confusing as he himself may get lost on what is being talked about.
“Ang problema ko dun sa disappearing messages, hindi ko na alam kung ano yung pinag-uusapan namin. Pag sumagot siya… tungkol saan ito ulit?” Sen. Escudero said.
Based on the report, when asked if posting screenshots of text messages on social media is a violation of the data privacy laws, Senate Pres. Chiz Escudero answered in the affirmative. However, he clarified that it is an allegation that has to be proven in the court.
According to the Senate President, while the posting of the text messages’ screenshots may be illegal, it can be used as a proof in the case. It is an exception made by the Court.
“Pero gumawa ng exception ang Korte dito, pwedeng gamiting ebidensya sa criminal case hindi sa civil case. Para patunayan ang innocence or guilt ng akusado pero hindi sa isang civil case para mapagbayad o mabawi anumang ari-arian. So yung ang pagkakaiba nun,” the Senate President said.
Amid the issue involving Jamela-Anthony-Maris, the previous remark of Maris Racal saying that “Anthony is out of the picture” when she confirmed her breakup with Rico Blanco resurfaced.
