Senate Plenary OKs Pres. Marcos Office’s Budget Request for 2025
MARCOS OFFICE – The Senate plenary approved the P10.5 billion budget request of the Office of the President (OP) without questions.
The budget proposal of the different offices in the government goes through the assessment and scrutiny of the House of Representatives and the Senate. There are deliberations being scheduled for the clarification of the fund request which are usually at least multi-million.
For the year 2025, at least two (2) offices in the government requested for a multi-billion budget. The Department of Budget and Management or DBM previously revealed that Vice Pres. Sara Duterte’s office requested for a P2 billion budget for 2025. According to DBM, the budget proposal does not indicate Confidential Funds.
As for Pres. Bongbong Marcos office’s budget proposal, based on a report on GMA News, the fund requested by the Office of the President for 2025 is P10.5 billion. It recently went through the checking of the Senate.
Based on the report, the P10.5 billion-budget proposal of the Marcos office was approved right away as there were no questions about. Senate Majority Leader Francis Tolentino who moved to consider the adoption of the budget request of the OP said that he has talked with the Senate finance committee chairperson as well as Senator Koko Pimentel.
“Upon consultation with the chairperson of the committee on finance as well as Minority Leader Koko Pimentel, I move that we consider and adopt for consideration of the Senate and approval of the budget of the OP, the president’s offices, and the presidential management staff,” Tolentino said.
Based on the report, there were no questions on the budget proposal for Pres. Bongbong Marcos’ office. Its deliberation was the first agenda of the Senate plenary today. No senator reportedly raised a question on the budget.
With regards to the budget for the Office of the Vice President (OVP), Sen. Grace Poe previously said that the Senate adopted the P733 million appropriated by the House panel for the 2025 budget of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte’s office.
The P733 million budget allocation set by the House of Representatives for the OVP followed the series of hearings in the lower chamber wherein Duterte ditched the inquiry. She also got into a spar not only with some House members at the hearing but as well as Senator RIsa Hontiveros.
Vice Pres. Sara Duterte and Sen. Risa Hontiveros exchanged heated remarks over the latter’s book. Included in the budget proposal is the P10 million allotted for the distribution of the book written by the Vice President.
