Former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte Explains Why He’ll Not Run for Senator amid Calls
RODRIGO DUTERTE – In the 2025 Midterm Elections, the former Chief Executive will run for Davao City Mayor while his son, Baste, will run for vice mayor.
In the Philippine politics, the Duterte family is one of the most popular clans. Thus, countless people await if former President Duterte will return to the political arena and what his sons, Paolo and Baste, will vie for. Last year, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte claimed that her father and brothers will run for senator in 2025.
Davao City Mayor Baste Duterte recently joined Partido Federal ng Pilipinas, one of the political parties that are part of the grand alliance of political parties in the Philippines. Previously, Senator Bato dela Rosa who is close to the Dutertes said that Baste Duterte will run for senator if former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte will run for mayor in Davao City.
Recently, the Duterte family has finalized their plans for the 2025 Midterm Elections. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte will run for mayor in Davao City and his son, Baste, will take the vice mayoralty race as his father’s running mate.
The former Chief Executive filed his Certificate of Candidacy (COC) before the cut-off of the filing on Monday at the Commission on Elections (Comelec) Davao District Office. He was met by his supporters who rejoice over the decision of the former President who has also served as mayor of the city before.
“Gusto kong magsilbi sa inyo. Davao is better than yesterday,” the former Chief Executive said.
Based on the report, Davao City Mayor Baste Duterte believes that his father, former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte, still has the wisdom to impart to the people. He described his father’s form of governance as rare.
“His form of governance kay very rare, effective gyud kaayo,” Davao City Mayor Baste said.
The older brother of Baste, Davao City First District Representative Paolo Duterte, will seek re-election while his son, Brgy. Buhangin Proper chairman Omar Duterte, will run as representative of Davao City’s Second District. Based on the report, the Davao City Mayor admitted that there are a lot of changes in their lineup but this will be their final lineup in the next election.
According to former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte, he cannot anymore handle strenuous national campaigns if he will run for senator in the 2025 Midterm Elections. Former presidential adviser Salvador Panelo said that there are a lot of calls for former Pres. Duterte to run for senator.
