In other countries, divorce is legal. However, in nations like the Philippines, only the nullification of marriage is allowed. Undeniably, annulment is a long and hard process for both parties. In Kuwait, there are options for divorce.

However, to many people’s surprise, a newly-married couple has taken the option way beyond the expectation of most. The husband and wife got divorced just three (3) minutes after their wedding. It was tagged as “probably the shortest marriage” and the “fastest divorce case” by media networks.

Based on an article on Pep, the wedding happened in 2019 in Kuwait but it keeps on resurfacing. The couple wed at a Courthouse in Kuwait. When the newly-married couple was heading towards the exit, the bride accidentally tripped off.

Based on the article, the bride heard her groom calling her “stupid” for the accident. She was outraged and she decided to divorce him right there and then. She went back to the judge and asked to nullify their marriage.

The judge agreed to the request of the bride. The newly-married couple got legally separated after three (3) minutes since they were announced as husband and wife as the judge released a Divorce Decree.

Citing the information from the U.S. Embassy in Kuwait, women have the divorce option. This is called “Shari’a” or “khali’a” which they can take in a quick manner “without having to establish grounds”. The said divorce option may be granted quickly provided that the wife gives up her rights on the properties and assets of her husband.
