Showtime Host Amy Perez Speaks on Parents Role in Letting Children Go
AMY PEREZ – The It’s Showtime host teared up as she recalled the time when she let go of her son, Adi, to allow him to live on his own.
Watching the ABS-CBN noontime variety show It’s Showtime is a part of the daily routine of countless households in the Philippines. The show which is airing since 2009 has aired several segments in its constant goal of giving their best in providing entertainment to the people.
Currently, one of the segments that It’s Showtime airs is EXpecially For You. In the said segment, ex-lovers usually appear as guest. One of them is set to find a date among three (3) searchees in the show and the other is there to help him/her ex find a date.
In some episodes, there are solo parents who appear as guests. During the episodes, the Showtime hosts usually exchange views over certain situation. While talking about the side of a parent in letting go a child in one recent episode, Tiyang Amy Perez went emotional.
Amy Perez recalled the time when she had to let go of her eldest son, Adi, and allow him to live on his own in a boarding house because of his studies. He had to stay near a university and it meant leaving their own home where he’s taken cared of by his mother.
It is no secret to the public that Amy raised her eldest son as a single parent following her separation with her musician ex-husband, Brix Ferraris. She found a new love and married Carlo Castillo. Their marriage is blessed with two (2) sons.
During the episode of Showtime, Tiyang Amy Perez recalled that she cried a lot when she had to led Adi go to pursue his dreams. She admitted that it was the hardest on her part being a mother. She tagged it as the “greatest sacrifice” of a parent.
“‘Yung i-let go ‘yung anak, hayaan na lumipad, mag-grow. Pero kung magkamali man nandoon pa rin ang magulang,” the Showtime host said.
Meanwhile, according to Amy Perez, time came that she has learned to accept that she has to give Adi his freedom and she is a proud mother for doing so. During the episode, she stressed that her son now learn to lives on his own and do things on his own without causing inconvenience to other people.
Tiyang Amy also expressed her pride that her reminders to Adi has resulted into him not only knowing how to live on his own but also growing to be an obedient son. According to the Showtime host, her two (2) other sons are grown-up as well and she usually spend Sundays with her family which she calls a “Sundate”.
