CODING IN MANILA – Here is a comprehensive guide on the number coding scheme that the MMDA implements in Metro Manila.

One of the daily struggles of the people living in Metro Manila or those who happened to spend some weeks in the Metro is the heavy traffic. It is no secret to the public that you need to wake up at dawn if you want to avoid getting stuck on the road most especially during peak hours. Meanwhile, there are schemes that the authorities implement to ease the traffic congestion.

One of the schemes implemented to prevent heavy traffic is the implementation of number coding in Manila and several other cities within the Metro. The Metro Manila Development Authority or more popularly called the MMDA implements the Modified Unified Vehicular Volume Reduction Program or UVVRP.

Under the Modified Unified Vehicular Volume Reduction Program, there is a schedule in a day when certain private vehicles, based on the last digit of their plate numbers, are not allowed to be on the road. Otherwise, they will be fined.

The Modified Unified Vehicular Volume Reduction Program or UVVRP covers the entire Metro Manila except Makati City which has its own number coding system. Here is the coding in Manila and several other cities within the Metro:

The implementation of the coding scheme is within a specific period daily. Here is the coding schedule except on holidays:

7:00 a.m. to 10 a.m.
5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
