This idiom was first used in Galatians 5:4 (King James Version) where Paul warned against combining the law with the gospel to obtain justification. He claims that individuals who underwent circumcision were “trying to be justified by law” and had become “alienated from Christ; you have fallen away from grace.”
Then, over time, it has been used to refer to the fall of man in the Garden of Eden in literary and musical contexts. According to some accounts, Adam and Eve lost the Most High’s Grace.
