Police Lieutenant General Guillermo Eleazar advised Independence Day protesters to “think twice”.
Police Lieutenant General Guillermo Eleazar encouraged protesters who were planning to conduct protest on Independence Day to “think twice”.
This, as Joint Task Force COVID Shield chief Police Lieutenant General Guillermo Eleazar advised protesters to think twice if they would push through their planned mass protests on Friday.
In an interview with CNN Philippines, Eleazar said that the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) was still present in the Philippines, adding that quarantine protocols were still implemented in the country wherein all forms of mass gatherings — including protests — were prohibited.
Eleazar told CNN Philippines that those protesters should think twice or they might be included in the list of COVID-19-infected patients. He added that the situation in the Philippines was different compared to other countries and the Joint Task Force COVID Shield understood that they wanted to voice out their sentiments yet quarantine protocols were still present in the country.
Moreover, Eleazar said that there were other ways to air their sentiments about the government, adding that protesters can conduct their protests virtually. He also mentioned that only 10 representatives from the group will be allowed to conduct protests if they decided to continue with their plans.
Eleazar also said that maximum tolerance was always there, however, it’s different when they insisted and said that they would resist or disobey the directive.
