DOH Records on COVID-19 Cases in Philippines Got Sudden Spike
DOH – The Department of Health explained the sudden increase on the COVID-19 cases in the Philippines.
Over 200 nations and territories are fighting against the spread of COVID-19 now. This coronavirus disease has already claimed over 300,000 lives across the globe.
The Philippines is one of the nations with confirmed cases of the disease. Thus, the national government has placed the whole nation under a community quarantine.
Currently, Metro Manila, Laguna province, and Cebu City are under a Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine (MECQ). Most parts of the country are under a General Community Quarantine (GCQ).
Starting June 1, most parts of the Philippines will be under a Modified General Community Quarantine (MGCQ) as declared by President Rodrigo Roa Duterte. Metro Manila will be under a GCQ.
However, before the shifting of the community quarantine measures, big increases on the total COVID-19 cases in the country were noted.
The Department of Health (DOH) recorded 350 new cases last May 26, 380 last May 27, and 539 last May 28. Yesterday, the health department recorded 1,046 new cases of the disease.
Undeniably, the sudden increase on the COVID-19 cases in the Philippines alarmed the public. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, most of the new cases are repatriated overseas Filipino workers (OFWs).
The DOH explained the sudden increase on the COVID-19 cases in PH. According to the report, the health department said that it is due to the backlog and validation.
Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire expressed that those samples which the results were not released within 72 hours are considered as backlog. Also, she stressed that there are strict validations even on names to prevent duplication.
Currently, the health department is still expecting increases on the COVID-19 cases in the country as it copes with the backlogs. It assured that laboratories are committed to address them.
