Tension at a Star-Studded Wedding? Inside the John Lloyd Cruz, Robi Domingo Controversy
JOHN LLOYD CRUZ – What was supposed to be a joyful and intimate wedding celebration reportedly took an unexpected turn after a tense moment involving John Lloyd Cruz and Robi Domingo surfaced online.
Rumors have circulated online about an alleged near-altercation involving actors John Lloyd Cruz and Robi Domingo during the wedding reception of Zanjoe Marudo and Ria Atayde on December 23. The story was discussed in detail by Ogie Diaz in his YouTube vlog alongside Mama Loi, Tita Jegs, Tamerlane Mopia a.k.a. Alaska Boy, and Oliver Carnay.
According to Ogie, the wedding reception was intentionally kept private. “Pansinin ninyo (walang nakakuha ng video) walang mga cellphone lalo na sa reception,” he said, explaining that all guests were given pouch bags where they were required to place their phones. This was a specific request from the newlyweds. “May pouch bag, binigyan lahat para roon isilid lahat ang cellphone. Reguest ng bagong kasal na walang magbi-video kaya pansinin n’yo, walang lumabas (tungkol sa kasalang Zanjoe at Ria).”
The panel agreed with Ogie, noting that the setup allowed guests to fully enjoy the celebration. “Kasi gusto ng dalawa mag-enjoy sila, magwalwal, magsuka kapag nalasing na para walang magkukuha,” Ogie added. Mama Loi echoed this sentiment, saying, “Para walang mako-conscious and you can be yourself and enjoy the company of your friends.”
Robi Domingo served as one of the hosts of the reception, attended by many close friends from the entertainment industry, including John Lloyd Cruz. Ogie shared that while Robi was hosting, he jokingly asked Ria, “how does it feel do be Mrs. Marudo?” and Zanjoe, “how does if feel to be Mr. Atayde?” The crowd reportedly laughed, and neither Zanjoe nor Ria took offense, as they are all close friends.
However, things allegedly took a turn when Robi stepped down from the stage and headed toward the bar. Ogie narrated that John Lloyd Cruz suddenly approached Robi and raised his voice, drawing the attention of other guests. “Sabi raw ni John Lloyd (kay Robi), ‘mali ‘yung sinabi mo, in-appropriate ‘yung sinabi mo okay ba ‘yung sinabi mo na tawagin mong Mr. Atayde (si Zanjoe).’”
Robi allegedly responded, “may isyu ba tayo?” to which John Lloyd reportedly said, “Bakit ano gusto mo mangyari.”
The situation caused the event to momentarily stop, with guests watching in shock. Donny Pangilinan reportedly stepped in as a precaution, while others like Enchong Dee, Elijah Canlas, Gary V, and the Valencianos were stunned by what they witnessed.
Despite the tension, no physical fight occurred. “Base sa nakakita ay nag-aabang lang si Robi kung uundayan siya ng suntok ni John Lloyd pero hindi naman nangyari kasi napakiusapan na ibigay kina Zanjoe at Ria ‘yung moment na ‘yun,” Ogie said.
Speculation arose that alcohol may have played a role, with Oliver Carnay repeatedly saying, “Baka naman lasing na si John Lloyd?” Ogie responded, “Malamang inuman na ‘yun.”
In the end, Ogie emphasized that the situation was diffused and that he would not judge either party. As Mama Loi explained, such remarks can sometimes be sensitive depending on interpretation, especially regarding surnames after marriage. She concluded that John Lloyd may have simply felt offended on behalf of his friend that night.
